an unexpected and fun renovation infused this 60’s home with scandinavian vibes! this kitchen was expanded and opened up to maximize space and functionality. you wouldn’t think you could get a sizeable kitchen in the room we had to work with.

the massive island overcrowded the kitchen causing some cabinets to not open completely.
we opened the space in two directions with extensive structural modifications. the result is a bright and spacious kitchen fit for gathering and preparing.

the kitchen was confined to one-half of the available space which limited its functionality and flow.
we took advantage of the entire space and relocated the patio door. the result is a long linear kitchen that allows multiple functions and people at a time.

this picture illustrates how closed-in and compartmentalized the kitchen was. the change in floor material further emphasized the separation of spaces.
the peninsula offers seating oriented towards the kitchen and backyard views by way of the new expansive 16’ long window. the custom-curved design of the peninsula is a feature that adds to the uniqueness of this sophisticated design.

the soffits and tall cabinets on both sides closed the kitchen in and made it feel dingy and dark.
the new design without upper cabinets provides ample storage space and working spaces while keeping the kitchen inviting, open, and bright.

the old kitchen featured a brick pizza oven that was never used.
we refinished the brick and created a concrete wall look with a smooth finish. the new wall oven|microwave combo found a new home there and adds to the special character of this kitchen.

The floor plan clearly shows how underused the existing space was.
the space has been transformed by eliminating a few walls and framing a new 16’ large window.
